My family and I escaped midweek so I could celebrate my birthday!
We headed down to our family house in Los Osos, next to San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay. Although this was our destination, my family also uses it as a resting point when travelling to Los Angeles or San Diego. Now, with some of our family living in Southern California the central coast is a great meeting spot.
A few places you will not want to miss if you have a chance to visit include:
Thursday night San Luis Obispo Farmers Market- this is the BEST market ever https://downtownslo.com/farmers-market/
Carlock’s Bakery- a tradition for as long as I can remember in Los Osos https://www.carlocksbakery.com/
Downtown San Luis Obispo- visit the mission, eat at Giusippes https://www.giuseppesrestaurant.com/ or clam chowder at Splash (also in Pismo beack) http://www.splashcafe.com/ , shopping, gum wall, Friday night concert in the Plaza next to the mission https://downtownslo.com/events/
Avila Beach http://www.visitavilabeach.com/ You need a day here. Kids love the tide pools and small waves. They have their own farmer’s market Friday evening. My dad’s favorite place to grab a drink is Rick’s.
McClintocks Dining Hall at Shell Beach – a nice place to grab a HUGE meal after a full day at the beach. https://www.mclintocks.com/dining-house/
Hike and tide pools at Montana de Oro http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=592
Morro Bay- rock http://www.morro-bay.ca.us/ , Crills salt water taffy http://www.crills.qpg.com/ , Skateboard Museum, Giovanni’s Fish Market
Taco Temple in Morro Bay- BEST fish tacos EVER! Sunset Magazine agreed… http://tacotemple.com/
Madonna Inn- come for a drink and you might not be able to pass up the cake. This place is like nothing you have ever seen. Be sure to take it all in, even the bathrooms. https://www.madonnainn.com/
In just 3 days, we did it all! Please share you favorites at the Central Coast! We didn’t even make it to Hearst Castle or venture down to Santa Barbara or Solvang this trip.
